In 1973—several years before his calling into the ministry—Alex’s thirst for
knowledge of God’s Word led him to begin an intense study of the words
within the Word. Using funds earned from his acclaimed work in the
entertainment industry, he spent over $75,000 and the next seven years
building & digging into his own personal library of Bible-related
resource & reference materials.
Then, as he began informally sharing his findings with a few close friends,
a teaching ministry began to develop that Alex had never before anticipated.
“The study of Bible Prophecy is simply learning to look at the entire
history of man from God’s perspective. God is omniscient—there’s never
been a time when God didn’t know everything there will ever be to know.
In His Word, therefore, He doesn’t PREDICT the future, He REPORTS it.
Truth exists when what is said and what is done MATCH EXACTLY,
and God validates His Word to us by making promises and
telling us in advance what’s going to happen, then letting us watch it
happen just like he said—even when strong forces try to prevent it.
So far, His record is one hundred percent!”
By 1985 Alex had gained a local reputation for being able to take some of
the most complex concepts in Scripture and explain them in terms that
even a 10-year-old could understand. His natural, easy-going,
plain-truth style inspired Rev. E. B. Esters, pastor of
Community Baptist Church in Compton, CA,
to ask Alex to teach there regularly—as he still does to this day.
“It doesn't matter what a particular Bible verse means to you, and you shouldn’t
care what it means to me, either. The issue is: if you and I never existed,
what does it mean? If you haven’t done enough homework on a verse
to know what it’s really saying, how can you expect to effectively
apply it to your life?
Today, if I say, ‘You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink’,
you’d know that I'm probably not talking about ‘leading’ or ‘horses’ or ‘water’
or ‘drinking’; however, 1500 years from now, someone in Japan reading
my quote translated into Japanese might easily misunderstand me
if they didn’t know anything about 20th-century American sayings. The
same is true with the Bible when we read 2,000-year-old Hebrew and
Greek now translated into English.”
Alex’s favorite field of study is Bible Prophecy, which is highly controversial
in many denominations, to say the least. In 1978 he wrote his first book,
“The Raptured Christian’s Last Will & Testament”, as an overview of
prophetic Scriptures, and a quick & easy way to get both Christians
and non-Christians thinking and talking about the Bible.
“Fortunately for all of us, the Bible doesn’t say, ‘He that believeth and
agrees with Alex on all points of Scripture shall be saved’. Since the only one
who is 100% right all the time is Jesus, I’m guaranteed to be wrong at least
once in a while. I’ll never waste time arguing Scripture with you trying to
prove that I’m right, just in case this is one of those times I’m not!
In court, we’d be wrong to base 100% of our verdict on 5% of the
evidence, and our approach to the Bible should be no different.
Bible Study is a lifetime on-going process.”
Many Bible studies are “homiletical” — reading a Bible verse and then
telling you how you should live by it. Alex prefers to conduct
“expository” sessions— digging into Scriptures to see exactly what’s
there, then leaving it up to you to let the Spirit of God within you
tell you how you should apply what you’ve learned to your life.
“When you stand before the Judgment Seat, neither I nor any other
preacher or teacher will be sitting next to Him to say, ‘It’s OK, Lord,
I told her she should do that’. And if you try to blame my teachings
for anything you got wrong, all God’s going to do is look you in the eye
and say, ‘Didn’t YOU have a copy of The Book?’
Since I will never be held to answer for what YOU do, you should never
let me or anyone else on earth be the one to tell you what you should
do--that’s the job of the Holy Spirit within you. While I am indeed responsible
to God to speak and teach truth to the best of my ability, you and only you will
be held responsible by Him for what you decide to learn and how you use it.”
Alex has been teaching on Sunday nights at Community Baptist Church
for over 20 years, but The Gospel Institute has been recording his
sessions for only about the last twelve months, and now for the first

you’re probably not aware of because they’re seldom discussed in today’s
churches—and he’s going to keep coming at you with everything he’s got!”
Although he is a licensed and ordained Baptist minister, Alex’s teachings
are completely non-denominational. As he likes to say, “Sooner
or later I’ll step on EVERYBODY’S toes!” As he goes through
prophetic scriptures, Alex shows you how many of today’s headlines
were written in the Bible 2,000-plus years ago! As you gain
